Abbie Cardwell

Imagine Bobby Gentry & JJ Cale had a love child and she was adopted by Rickie Lee Jones whilst dating Tom Waits and they all had summer vacations with Ryan Adams & Lucinda Williams......and then you've got somewhere closer to describing Abbie Cardwell's sound! This Aussie Triple J Unearthed winner is one helluva banjo pickn, guitar slingin, harmonica totin chick with the voice of a "homesick angel" Abbie takes her favourite moments from soul, jazz, country, folk, blues, and rock to create her own brand of 'Rootsy-Toons'. Abbie's new album By Hook Or By Crook was recorded in Australia and mixed in the USA by Nick Didia (Bruce Springsteen, Rage Against The Machine) and is receiving rave reviews; "Abbie Cardwell shows that she's the real deal on her new record. Think Lucinda williams, Rickie Lee Jones, Sheryl Crow and Ryan Adams" - Jeff Jenkins, Australia Music Guide "Abbie Cardwell displays vivid emotion, in both voice and lyrics. Her new CD offers a wide-ranging synthesis of soul, blues and new country and showcases Cardwell's dexterity on acoustic guitar, banjo, harmonica and tambourine. By Hook Or By Crook is by any measure a gorgeous manifestation of a remarkable talent." - PB, Border Mail "Abbie Cardwell's newest CD "By Hook Or By Crook" is a masterpiece. Easily one of the year's ten best. It's a beautiful blend of folk, blues and country influenced songs that have been painstakingly crafted by a songwriter that is at the top of her game. This album is a definite "Must Have". - Mark, WOT90's Radio - Canada . User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
